The Hidden Universe Much of the known universe is hidden from our view by interstellar dust. The James Webb Space Telescope will be able to probe through that dust and into the farthest reaches of space, where it will be used to study the birth and evolution of stars, galaxies, and planetary systems. This unique capability will stem from the telescope’s innovative design and large light-gathering mirror, an orbit well beyond Earth’s Moon, and optics that “see” in the infrared wavelengths. |
